A Letter to Parents by a Teacher
Dear Parents
Namaskar 🙏
As a teacher, I would like to share a few thoughts with you, not just as someone responsible for teaching your child, but as someone who genuinely wishes to see your ward grow into a good human being.
Dear Parent, education is not just about marks, ranks, certificates or achievements. It is about developing the right attitude, good habits, discipline, confidence and values that will guide our children throughout their lives.
Discipline is the foundation of a successful life. Let us help our children understand the importance of punctuality, honesty, respect, responsibility and self-control. Discipline should not come from fear; it should come from understanding what is right and what is expected of us.
Every child is different. Some learn quickly, while others need more time, encouragement and personal attention. Your child may not always share everything with you, but please make time to listen, observe and understand. A few minutes of meaningful conversation every day can make a big difference. Do not compare your child with others; instead, appreciate small improvements and encourage sincere efforts.
I also request you to trust the teachers and maintain a healthy relationship with the school. We may sometimes correct your child, point out mistakes or insist on certain rules. Please understand that our intention is not to discourage or hurt, but to guide the child towards improvement. When parents and teachers work together, children feel secure and learn to take responsibility for their actions.
Along with academic knowledge, let us imbibe Indianness and Indian values in our children. Teach them to respect elders, care for younger ones, respect every religion and culture, value our languages and traditions, and take pride in our country's rich heritage. These values should not remain limited to textbooks or celebrations; they should be reflected in everyday behaviour.
Our children must also become socially aware. They should learn to respect people from every background, care for the environment, help those in need, use technology responsibly and understand the problems faced by society. Let them realise that being educated is not merely about securing a good job; it is also about becoming a responsible citizen who contributes positively to society.
Dear Parent, your child learns more from what you practise than from what you preach. The way we speak to others, handle difficulties, respect people and fulfil our responsibilities becomes a lesson for our children. Let us lead by example.
As a teacher, I do not expect every child to be perfect. I only wish that every child gets the right guidance, love, discipline and opportunities to grow. Let us give our children the freedom to express themselves, the courage to accept their mistakes and the wisdom to learn from them.
Let us remember that we are not merely preparing children for examinations; we are preparing them for life.
Together, let us nurture not just a successful student, but a sensitive, confident, disciplined and responsible human being.
With warm regards and best wishes for your ward's bright future,
Yours sincerely,
Your Child's Teacher
